NOTES:
The Coast outline is a layer that was originally obtained from the State GIS. The lines were extracted from USGS Digital Line Graph files (primarily hydrography layer), then overlayed with
hard copy USGS 7.5' quads to check for accuracy (circa 1991). A few updates have been made since obtaining this layer mainly around the man made lagoons at Ihilani Resort in Kapolei (1996).

Caution: Since the coast was digitized from USGS maps at a scale of 1"= 2,000', the Zoning, Flood, or Parcels' outer boundary will be different than this Coast line due to the difference in scale of the input. Typically, the zoning is input at a scale of 1 in = 400' and parcels are 1" = 100', whose boundaries can extend into the water. In general this layer is used to quickly display the outline of the island on the screen as a reference. It is usually not plotted with other map layers in order to avoid confusion along the waters edge.
Eventually, a coast derived from Lidar data or high resolution imagery can be used as reference. In certain areas the shoreline is certified, especially Waikiki, so these certifications could be used to update this layer.
